The Charlotte Award
The Charlotte Award is named after the main character in E.B. White’s Charlotte’s Web. The purpose of the award is to encourage students to read outstanding literate and to become lifelong readers.
The 2014 Charlotte Award nominating committee narrowed down the thousands of books published in 2011-2012. 10 books were chosen in for each age group.
Students in New York State read the titles on the ballot, and then vote on their favorite. The books may be read to the students or the student may read the books independently. The students are encouraged to read all the titles in the category, but it is not required. Students may vote only once in each category, but may vote in every category if they have read the books.
